Lazy Eye (Amblyopia)

What is Amblyopia?

Lazy eye develops from a young age. Basically, the brain registers vision from one eye more than the other, because there are problems with nerve pathways between the retina (the back of the eye) and the brain. This causes one eye to wander.

How Do You Treat It?

Lazy eye is easily treatable by a professional eye doctor. Treatment options may include:

  1. Patching. Covering your better eye with a patch will strengthen the other eye by making it work harder.
  2. Eye drops. There are drops specifically for treating lazy eye. They blur the better eye and let the weaker eye do the work, strengthening it.
  3. Cataract surgery. Removing cataracts, if you have them, may help the weaker eye improve.
