What is Hyperopia?
Hyperopia (as opposed to myopia) is a condition commonly referred to as farsightedness. It occurs when distant vision is in focus, but closer objects appear blurry. Hyperopia often results in trouble reading and judging distances.
How Is Hyperopia Treated?
Although almost everyone experiences some degree of hyperopia, about 60% of people in the U.S. are farsighted enough to need treatment. Luckily, this condition is relatively easy and affordable to correct at eyecarecenter.
Treatment options include:
- Glasses or contacts. With your doctor’s prescription, you choose your pair of glasses or select contact lenses at your appointment!
- Laser surgery. An eye surgeon can use a laser to remove some tissue and change the shape of your cornea.
What Causes Hyperopia?
Farsightedness can occur from:
- The eyeball being too short
- The cornea having too little curvature
