What Are Cataracts?
Cataracts is an eye problem that often happens as people age. It’s the reason you may see older people or animals with visibly cloudy eyes. In cataracts, the lens (the part of the inside of your eye that focuses light) becomes clouded. If you are over 40 and have noticed your blurred, hazy, or fading vision, definitely get your eyes checked.
How Do You Treat Cataracts?
Advanced cataracts can only be treated with surgery. An ophthalmologist — eye surgeon — removes your eye’s lens and implants an artificial one (That’s really possible!). Luckily, less severe cataracts can be treated like many other vision problems, with a strong glasses or contacts prescription.
What Causes Cataracts?
Most cataracts develop because of age, but if a person has diabetes or takes some prescription drugs like steroids, he or she may be at a higher risk.
What Do You Do If You Think You Have Cataracts?
Get treated as soon as possible! Regular checkups at the eyecarecenter near you can help you avoid cataracts or detect and treat them early.
